Alexander Lukashenko

Alexander Lukashenko is a Belarusian politician who has served as the President of Belarus since the office was established in 1994. Often referred to as “Europe’s last dictator,” Lukashenko is known for his authoritarian leadership style, which has included strict control over political opposition, media censorship, and the suppression of public dissent. His presidency has been marked by a lack of democratic freedoms and human rights abuses. Lukashenko was re-elected in a controversial election in 2020 that was widely criticized for being fraudulent, leading to mass protests and international condemnation. Throughout his tenure, he has maintained close ties with Russia, while facing increasing isolation from Western countries.
